JAMES ALFRED TRUITT, third child of Levi and Susanna Truitt, was born on October 25, 1795 in Rowan, North Carolina.  He married first SARAH HALL on January 23, 1817 in Burke, North Carolina.   Sarah was born on July 29, 1796 in Burke, North Carolina. She was the Daughter of  JOSUSHA HALL, a Baptist minister.  Sarah died on July 3, 1848 and is buired in Truitt Cemetery, Shelby County,Texas.  James married second time MARY CHILDRESS WILSON, widow of William Wilson in Shelby County, Texas.  James died on June 11, 1870 and is buried in Truitt Cemetery, Shelby County, Texas.

The children of James and Sarah Truitt:

    1. ALFRED MARION TRUITT, first child of Levi and Sarah Truitt, was born in 1817 in Buncombe, North Carolina.  He married SUSAN ELEANORA TODD.   Alfred served in the Cherokee War of 1837-1838 in North Carolina in moving some of the Indian tribes West.  He was in command of the Sheriffs Forces during the Regulators and Moderators War in Texas.  He served as Major in various battles during the Mexican War.  He established a mercantile business at Willow Grove (near Joaquin, Texas) and Buena Vista Community.  On April 12, 1862 he enlisted as Captain in A. M. Truitt Company, Randal Regiment of the Texas Lancers, Confederate Army.  He served in the Regiment until his retirement in 1863.  He had contracted lung problems during the war and died in June 19, 1864.  Susan died on July 5, 1865.  Both are buried in Truitt Cemetery, Shelby County, Texas.

    c.  JAMES W. TRUITT, third child of Alfred and Eleanora Truitt, was born on November 8, 1845 in  Shelbyville, Shelby County, Texas.  He married AUGUSTA BRYAN.  To this union JOHN HENRY TRUITT was born in 1867.  James W. died in 1923 Shelby County, Texas. 

    d. JOHN HAYS TRUITT, fourth child of Alfred and Eleanora Truitt, was born February 22, 1848 in Shelby County, Texas.  He married MARY BROWN.  He died on March 2, 1892.  No other data available.

    e.  SARAH TRUITT, fifth child of Alfred and Eleanora Truitt, was born in July 1848 in Shelby County, Texas.  She died in 1923. No other data available.

    f.  SUSAN TRUITT, sixth child of Alfred and Eleanora Truitt, was born on November 16, 1851 in Shelby County, Texas.  She died in1923.  No other data available.

    g.  BETTIE IZORA TRUITT, seventh child of Alfred and Eleanora Truitt, was born February 13, 1853 in Shelby County, Texas.  She married JOHN M. BURROW.  She died on July 3, 1890.

        h.  JAMES PINKNEY TRUITT, eighth child of Alfred and Eleanora Truitt, was born in 1857 in Shelby County, Texas.  No other data available.

    ANDREW JACKSON TRUITT, (This is the guy the book is about.) second child of James and Sarah Truitt, was born in 1819 in Buncombe County, North Carolina.   He married first ELIZABETH JOHNSON in 1850.  They were divorced in 1859.  He married a second time ELIZABETH "JULIE" GIBSON   in 1865.  His main occupation was a farmer, although fighting was more his style.  He had land grants in Shelby and Montague Counties.  He also made the California Gold Rush in 1949.  He served in the Cherokee Indian War of 1838, Regulator-Moderator war, Shelby County, Texas.  He was a Moderator in The East Texas conflict and at the Battle of Cedar Yard, he killed the first man there.  The man's name was HOWELL HUDSON, a neighbor of his, a Regulator.  He also served in the Mexican War, Company I, 2nd Regiment, Texas Volunteers. In the Texas Rangers, Captain Thomas J. Johnson's Company, Mounted Rangers. The Civil War, Co. E. Taylor's Battalion, Texas Cavalry, and Co B. Waul's Legion.    Andrew died on January 12, 1876 in Montague County, Texas and is buried at Starkey Cemetery, Montague County, Texas.

   3.  MARY MINERVA TRUITT, third child of James and Sarah Truitt, was born April 17, 1822 in North Carolina.  She married JULIUS N. GARRETT.   Julius was born on September 18, 1816 in South Carolina.  He died on August 4, 1883 in Shelby County, Texas.  Mary died on September 26, 1873 in Shelby County, Texas.  Both are buried in Truitt Cemetery, Shelby County, Texas.

    c.  MARIMON GARRETT, third and twin child of Julius and Minerva Garrett, was born August 8, 1845 in Shelby County, Texas.  He was twin to Marion Garrett. He died on February 2, 1927.

    d.  MARION GARRETT, third and twin child of Julius and Minerva Garrett, was born August 8, 1845 in Shelby County, Texas.  He was twin to Marimon Garrett.  He married A. J. (last name unknown).  He died also on February 2, 1927 and is buried in Truitt Cemetery, Shelby County, Texas.

    e.  ALFRED M. GARRETT, fifth child of Julius and Minerva Garrett, was born in 1846 in Shelby County, Texas.  No other data available.

    f.  SARAH JANE GARRETT, sixth child of Julius and Minerva Garrett, was born March 30, 1848 in Shelby County, Texas.  She married THOMAS JEFFERSON HARRIS in 1865 in Shelby County, Texas. 

    g.  JAMES ANDREW GARRETT, seventh child of Julius and Minerva Garrett, was born November 30, 1849.  He died in August 11, 1878 and is buried in Truitt Cemetery, Shelby County, Texas.   

     h  MARY S. GARRETT, ninth child of Julius and Minerva Garrett, was born June 21, 1853.  She married JULIUS FONVILLE.   Mary died in August 28, 1920 and is buried in Truitt Cemetery, Shelby County, Texas.

    i. JULIUS "BUD" GARRETT, tenth child of Julius and Minerva Garrett, was born March 3, 1855 in Shelby County, Texas.  He married MARGARET F. (last name unknown).  She was born June 17, 1860.  She died on April 22, 1887.   Bud died  September 24, 1886.   Both are buried in Truitt Cemetery, Shelby County, Texas.  No other data available.

    j.  ROBERT H. GARRETT, eleventh child of Julius and Minerva Garrett, was born January 17, 1857 in Shelby County, Texas.  He died in 1935.   No other data available.

    k.  LEVI M. GARRETT, twelfth child of Julius and Minerva Garrett, was born November 22, 1858 in Shelby County, Texas.  He married BULAH NETHERLY.  Levi died April 27, 1901 and is buried in Truitt Cemetery, Shelby County, Texas.  No other data available.

    4.  SARAH CAROLINE TRUITT, fourth child of James and Sarah Truitt, was born November 27, 1824 in Rowan North Carolina.  She married LEMUEL HENDERSON STEPHENS.  Sarah died on November 1, 1904 in Amarillo, Texas.

    c. SARAH JANE TRUITT, third child of Levi and Louisiana Truitt, was born in July 9, 1851 in Shelby County, Texas.  She married SAM WOOD. He was born January 22, 1847 and died May 1, 1920.  Sarah died June 22,  1905.   Both are buried in Truitt Cemetery, Shelby County, Texas.

    d.  HENRY C. TRUITT, fourth child of Levi and Louisiana Truitt, was born on November 11, 1859.  He died on November 6, 1940.

    e.   CYNTHIA LULA TRUITT, fifth child of Levi and Louisiana Truitt, was born in 1862.  She married ELAM WESLEY COCKRELL.  She died in 1951.

The children of Elam and Cynthia Cockrell:

    f.  JAMES ELIJAH TRUITT, sixth child of Levi and Louisiana Truitt, was born July 17, 1866. He died in 1913.  No other data available.

    g.  ROBERT TRUITT, seventh child of  Levi and Louisiana Truitt, was born February 15, 1872 in Shelby County, Texas. He died on March 11, 1904.  No other data available.

    h.  ALFRED JOSHUA TRUITT, eighth child of Levi and Louisiana Truitt, was born May 24, 1872 in the Truit Store Community, Shelby County, Texas.  He married first BERTIE SCOTT on May 25, 1890.  She was born on January 30, 1871.  Alfred was a cotton broker and land speculator.  He lost over a million dollars when the stock market crashed in 1929. Bertie died on March 28, 1899 and is buired in Joaquin Cemetery, Shelby County, Texas.  Alfred married second time ELLA PINKSTON on May 18, 1899.   Ella died on December 23, 1966.  Alfred died in Panola County Hospital, Carthage, Texas.  Ella and Alfred are buried in Joaquin Cemetery, Shelby County, Texas.

The children of Alfred and Bertie Truitt:

      1)  PALMER E. TRUITT, first child of Alfred and Bertie Truitt, was born on May 15, 1891.   He married first BEATRICE TERIOT. They were divorced and he married second time ASA FONTENOT.  To these union there were no children.  He was a veteran of WWI.  He died on February 26, 1983 and is buired in Joaquin Cemetery, Shelby County, Texas.

    2)  ANGLIS N. TRUITT, second child of Alfred and Bertie Truitt, was born on August 18, 1892.  He was killed in a railroad accident while working up North.  A story is told "when they were bringing his body home to Joaquin, the train engineer started blowing the whistle when he crossed the Sabine River bridge and continued blowing it until they arrived in Joaquin."  A distance of about three miles.  He never married.   He died on June 8, 1913 and is buried in Joaquin Cemetery, Shelby County, Texas.

    4)  ATLAS T. TRUITT, fourth child of Alfred and Bertie Truitt, was born on August 18, 1896.  She married EARL CRAWFORD. He was born on August 30, 1892 and died on October 31, 1972.  Atlas died on May 14, 1963.  To this union four children were born.   Both are buied in Joaquin Cemetery, Shelby County, Texas.

    7)  MARCIA TRUITT, first child of Alfred and Ella Truitt, was born on June 18, 1901.  She married first GUY KING.  To this union CHARLES KING, BILLY KING and PEGGY KING were born.  She married second time RAY BOWER.   Date of her death is unknown and she is buried in Houston, Texas.

    8)  HILDA TRUITT, second child of Alfred and Ella Truitt, was born November 11, 1903  She married   JACK DAVIDSON.  He was born on September 18, 1898.  To this union JACKIE JEAN DAVIDSON was born.  He died on October 19, 1979.  Hilda is buired in Odessa, Texas.

    10)  PAULINE TRUITT, fourth child of Alfred and Ella Truitt, was born September 13, 1908  She married JAMES K. BISHOP on December 19, 1940.  James died on October 26, 1995 and is buried in Truitt Cemetery, Shelby County, Texas.  To this union no children were born.

    12)  JAMES M. TRUITT, sixth child of Alfred and Ella Truitt, was born February 3, 1915. He married CHRISTINE WILLIAMS on September 15, 1939.  To this union JUDITH ANN TRUITT, born  December 12, 1940 and JAMES M. TRUITT, JR., born August 19, 1943.   

    13)  ALFRED JOSHUA TRUITT, JR., seventh child of Alfred and Ella Truitt, was born September 4, 1917.   He married JOY DALE BAKER on August 7, 1942 in Orange, Texas.    She was born February 16, 1923 in Ft. Worth, Texas.  To this union DONALD A. TRUITT, born July 27, 1944 and SHARON ANN TRUITT, born October 27, 1946.

    6.  JOSHUA HALL TRUITT, sixth child of James and Sarah Truitt, was born November 21, 1829 in Macon, North Carolina.  He married MARY JANE ROSS.   She was born September 5, 1838 in Tennessee.  She died on November 22, 1913. Joshua died on November 17, 1916.   Both are buried in Truitt Cemetery, Shelby County, Texas.

    a.  ELIZABETH TRUITT, first child of Joshua and Mary Truitt, was born in 1855. She married ASA WOOD.  He was born July 27, 1853 and died November 29, 1878.  Elizabeth died in 1913.  No other data available.

    b.  MARY ELLEN TRUITT, second child of Joshua and Mary Truitt, was born on July 27, 1858.  She died December 21, 1899.

    c.  JAMES W. TRUITT, third child of Joshua and Mary Truitt, was born in 1863.  He died in 1883.  No other data available.

    d.    JOSEPHINE TRUITT, fourth child of Joshua and Mary Truitt, was born November 10, 1863.  She married JOHN THOMAS WATKINS.  He was born May 10, 1861 and died February 23, 1936.    Josephine died August 29, 1951.  Both are buried in Truitt Cemetery, Shelby County, Texas.

    8.  CLARESSA A. TRUITT, eighth child of James and Sarah Truitt, was born April 14, 1834 in Macon, North Carolina.  She married GEORGE HARRISON STEPHENS, SR..  He was born in 1828 and died on June 14, 1864.  Claressa died on January 8, 1899 in Truitt Cemetery, Shelby County, Texas.

g. CYNTHIA S. TRUITT, ninth child of James and Sarah Truitt, was born May 2, 1836 in Macon, North Carolina.  She married ROBERT H. RICHARDSON.   He was born in 1826 in Tennessee and died August 12, 1857.  Cynthia married second time ELIJAH JESSIE RUSHING.  He was born December 27, 1841 in Tennessee and died on March 21, 1916.  Cynthia died December 15, 1926 in Shelby County, Texas.

    a)  JAMES J. RUSHING, first child of Elijah and Cynthia Rushing, was born November 18, 1862.  He married MAGGIE BURROUGHS. To this union ERA RUSHING, ESTHER RUSHING, WINFREY RUSHING, ALTON RUSHING, and OSCAR RUSHING were born. James died on April 17, 1924.

    b) SARAH ANN RUSHING, second child of Elijah and Cynthia Rushing, was born July 20, 1866.  She married WILLIAM BRONFIELD WOOD.  To this union WILLIAM ARTHUR WOOD, born 1888 died 1901 and  WILLIE A. WOOD, born 1892 died 1906.

    c) SUSAN ELLA RUSHING, third child of Elijah and Cynthia Rushing, was born January 14, 1871.  She married M. E. COLE. To this union WILLIAM GREEN COLE was born in 1893 and died in 1930.  Susan died February 17, 1952.   

    d)  EDGAR ALONZO RUSHING, fourth child of Elijah and Cynthia Rushing, was born April 22, 1877.  He married JESSIE MAE LASSITER.  To this union BESSIE M. RUSHING was born in 1911 and died in 1911.  Edgar died in 1943.

    e)  ASA E. RUSHING, fifth and twin child of Elijah and Cynthia Rushing, was born February 11, 1880 in Pineridge Community, Shelby County, Texas. He married KATE TOWER. 

    f)  ALFRED GREEN RUSHING, sixth and twin child of Elijah and Cynthia Rushing, was born February 11, 1880 in Pineridge Community, Shelby County, Texas.   He married FRANCES VIRGINIA PIERCE.  To this union EDGAR RANDOLPH RUSHING, born 1901, CYNTHIA CORA RUSHING, born 1905 and ROBBIE ATRELL RUSHING, born 1910.

   10.  JAMES MORGAN "DOC" TRUITT,  tenth child of James and Sarah Truitt, was born June 24, 1839 in San Augustine, Texas.  He married MARY CATHERINE REDDITT.  She was born on March 17, 1845 in Mississippi and died October 25, 1917 in Harris County, Texas.  Doc died on July 25, 1911 and is buried in Truitt Cemetery, Shelby County, Texas.
